2021 Regional Book Fair Held in Koforidua
A Regional Book Fair has taken place in Koforidua in the Eastern Region. The event which was organized by the Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), the Ghana Publishers Association (GPA), was held at the GhLA Conference Room, from Thursday 28th October 2021 to Saturday 30th October 2021.
The opening ceremony was well attended. Some of the personalities who attended the opening ceremony included the Regional Director of Ghana Education Service for the Eastern Region, the Regional Director for the Eastern Region Centre for National Culture, the President of the Ghana Publishers Association, staff of GBDC, GhLA, and GES. There were also in attendance heads of schools, heads of institutions, teachers, and school children.
A number of publishing companies exhibited varieties of books. Some of the publishing companies present were Adwinsa Publications, Minerva Books Limited, Mountype Books Limited, Garnet Martmag Ventures, Kwadwoan Publishing, Outstanding Authors, Asempa Publishers, York Press Limited, Masterman Publications, Sub-saharan Publishers, etc.
The purpose of the Book Fair was to create a platform to make books accessible to the general public, as the books were sold at discounted prices. It was also to intensify a lifelong reading culture among Ghanaians, especially children in the Basic school level.
