2022 REGIONAL BOOK FAIR, KUMASI

2022 Regional Book Fair

The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), and the Coalition of Ashanti Authors and Publishers (CoAAP) organised the 2022 Regional Book Fair in Kumasi, which kick-started on 20th October 2022. Its main purpose was to make books accessible to pupils and the general public in the Ashanti Region.

In all, 20 exhibitors comprising members of the CoAAP, the Coalition of Ashanti Book Sellers and Paper Converters, GBDC and GhLA were present at the fair.

Reading, spelling bee and word formation competitions were organised as part of the Book Fair on 20th October 2022. Five basic schools (Owass Primary, Uaddara Basic School, T.I Ahmadiyya Primary, St. Luke R/C Primary and Adum Presby Primary) participated in all three competitions. Owass Primary emerged winners of the word formation and reading competitions, whilst Uaddara Basic School won the spelling bee competition. The winners were presented with trophies and story books. The other participants were also presented with story books.

Also, a creative writing and literary appreciation session was organised for some selected senior high schools in the Ashanti Region on 21st October 2022. The participating schools were J. A. Kufour Senior High School, St Hubert Senior High School, Serwaa Nyarko Senior High School, Kumasi Anglican Senior School, T.I. Amass Senior High School, Asanteman Senior High School, and Suame Technical Institute.
