In the heart of Accra, Ghana, in the month of September 2023, the Ghana Association of Writers Book Festival (GAWBOFEST) began with the celebration of all things literary. This year was exceptional, as it coincided with the celebration of the Accra World Book Capital, 2023, title year. The festival to ran from September 19 to September 21, with three enchanting days of literary bliss.

Activities marking the festivities included a captivating book exhibition, where attendees could explore countless stories through colourful book covers; “Puppets in Motion,” where the audience was entranced by puppetry performances that breathed life into stories. Puppets danced, acted, and weaved tales in a way that left spectators spellbound.

Other activities included a dramatic reading of Prof. Lade Wosornu's "The Unattached." The students of Accra Girls Senior High School took the stage under twinkling fairy lights. Their voices carried the audience into the depths of the novel, where characters and emotions came to life. The students' reading was not just a performance; it was a journey into the heart of storytelling. Inspired by the day's experiences, the students discovered hidden treasures in the pages of books and tapped into the limitless power of their own imaginations. The Students took centre stage once again, sharing their own written poems.

The festival also recorded the participation of the Miishɛɛ Indigenous Band and guest reader Naa Dedei Botchwey, the 2020 Ghana's Most Beautiful Queen, who celebrated the richness of Ghanaian literature. The festival continued with Read & Bounce and Read & Play, merging literature with video games. It showcased the enduring love for books and the ever-evolving ways of storytelling.

The 2023 GAWBOFEST, celebrated as part of the Accra World Book Capital 2023 title year, came to a close on the third day, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who attended.  In the end, GAWBOFEST 2023 wasn't just a festival; it was a journey through the wonders of literature, a celebration of creativity, and a testament to the enduring power of words.
