The Ghana Book Development Council in collaboration with Frankfurter Buchmesse (organisers of Frankfurt Book fair), Germany organised a 2-day workshop, under the auspices of Accra World Book Capital 2023. This is part of efforts to build the capacity of book industry practitioners. The 2-day workshop, themed "Metadata in Book Publishing" was held on 2nd - 3rd November 2023 at National Children and Mobile Library (NCML), Accra.

The workshop aimed to educate and introduce to participants the fundamentals of metadata and its practical use, standards and guidelines for creating and managing metadata, as well as the importance of maintaining quality metadata. The 2-day workshop brought together participants from diverse fields, including librarians, publishers, authors, and other professionals, all of whom shared a common interest in improving the discoverability and accessibility of books. The resource person for the workshop was Jan Gotze, the Head of Product Management VLB & Metabooks Business Unit Digital, Germany.

At the end of the workshop, participants were encouraged to read more on metadata and utilize the knowledge gained to widen their audience and book sales.

The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of metadata and its vital role in improving the discoverability and accessibility of books. The event successfully bridged the gap between theory and practice, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to create, manage, and maintain high-quality metadata.
