There is a common saying that, “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Indeed, literally not all book should be judged by the cover. Reasons are that some locally produced books on the market would have a very catchy book cover with nice illustrations or designs but the format or structure of the book block wouldn’t be user friendly.
Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC) is advocating the concept of family reading as a tool to ensure that the culture of reading permeates every part of the country. This is one of the many measures put in place as a complement of the efforts of the Ministry of Education and its Agencies, including other organizations (governmental/non-governmental) to ensure that school children cultivate the habit of reading for pleasure.
The World Book Day, also known as, the World Book and Copyright Day, is an important day celebrated every year by member states of the United Nations (UN). Among other reasons, the event is organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) on the 23rd of April, every year, to promote reading, publishing and copyright.
Books play a very essential role in our development as individuals and as a country. They form a basis of transforming society into a knowledgeable community through the provision of information, knowledge, wisdom and pleasure.
