Press Release - Accra Wins the UNESCO World Book Capital Title For 2023

Accra has won the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Book Capital for the year 2023. This was contained in a press release by the Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay on 22nd September 2021. Accra will therefore host the title from 23rd April 2023, which is celebrated globally as the World Book and Copyright Day, to 22nd April 2024.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, has named Accra (Ghana) as UNESCO World Book Capital for 2023, following the evaluation of the World Book Capital Advisory Committee.

After Guadalajara (Mexico) in 2022, the city of Accra was selected for its strong focus on young people and their potential to contribute to the culture and wealth of Ghana. Accra’s proposed programme seeks to use the power of books to engage these young people, as an effective way of skilling up the next generation. 

GBDC Emerges Among Top 10 Entries for IFLA PressReader Marketing Award, 2021

The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), an Agency under the Ministry of Education, has been adjudged one of the top ten organisations with creative and result-oriented marketing projects and campaigns for books and reading. This was announced in a press release by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and PressReader to announce the results of the entries for the IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award for 2021.
