UNESCO’S Global Coordinator of the World Book Capital Programme visits Accra

Mr. Ian Denison, the Global Coordinator of the World Book Capital Programme is in Accra, Ghana to assess the City's readiness to host the UNESCO World Book Capital, 2023 title. The year-long programme commences on the 23ʳᵈ April 2023 to 22ⁿᵈ April 2024.

Mr. Denison paid courtesy calls on Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo (The Country Director, UNESCO Ghana), Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, (The Minister for Education), Hon. Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey (The Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly), anda Mr. Charles Abani (The UN Resident Coordinator).

Secretariat of the Accra World Book Capital, 2023 partners Worldreader to promote reading

The Worldreader Ghana in partnership with the Secretariat of the Accra World Book Capital, 2023 and other stakeholders brought together children and educators for the second edition of the Accra DigiRead Experience. The reading activity which took place on December 7, 2023 at the premises of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly offered children the opportunity to share their love of reading through their participation in several reading activities. ABOUT THE ACCRA WORLD BOOK CAPITAL, 2023 - CALL FOR PROPOSALS

On 22nd September 2021, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared the city of Accra as the UNESCO World Book Capital for the year 2023. Accra therefore joins the prestigious global Network of World Book Capital Cities as the 23rd city (and the 3rd in Sub-Saharan Africa). Accra assume the title from 23rd April 2023 to 22nd April 2024.

2022 REGIONAL BOOK FAIR, KUMASI

The Ghana Book Development Council (GBDC), the Ghana Education Service, the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), and the Coalition of Ashanti Authors and Publishers (CoAAP) organised the 2022 Regional Book Fair in Kumasi, which kick-started on 20th October 2022. Its main purpose was to make books accessible to pupils and the general public in the Ashanti Region.

In all, 20 exhibitors comprising members of the CoAAP, the Coalition of Ashanti Book Sellers and Paper Converters, GBDC and GhLA were present at the fair.
